Design Master Course created for the enterprises in SID industrial design school in Italy
The Master Course in Creative Design consists of about 20 Students who have already studied for two years and have gained a specific knowledge in the field of Design (concept, product, packaging, visual, web).
The One Year Master Course recreates the environment of a real professional office where Students, coordinated by the Teaching Staff, work on themes of Creative Design assigned by Companies.
Companies take part to the MASTER course for the following reasons:
- The possibility to access the “unconditioned creativity”; Students develop the assigned theme without constraints due to months or years of specific design experience. In this way the cultural approach to the project is freer and it allows Students to find particularly innovative ideas and products
- The access to a large number of "creative ideas"; on average every of the 20 Students, carefully coordinated by the Teacher, develops and presents at least 2 ideas for each project; for a total of at least 40 "creative ideas"
- The theme is faced from a “young point of view”; the lifestyle of a creative young designer, due to the particular context in which he is growing up (computerization, globalization, contamination of different cultures), differs from that of an adult designer, so the young creative foresees situations and behaviours that need new products compared to the needs of the previous generation; the point of view of the young creative designer is important because he designs starting from the cultural basis of new generations that are the target consumers with greater life expectancy and thus consumption
- The possibility of selecting young designers; the contact with a significant number of young Designers allows Companies, if they need it, to select more carefully new professional figures which they can introduce in their own staff or with which they can start an outsourcing collaboration.
- A limited commitment in terms of time to dedicate to the project; the Master group develops projects at the Institute, not at the Company; the commitment of the firm is limited to three meetings: assignment of the theme, verification and selection of the first ideas, final presentation and delivery of definitive projects
The Company is involved in the Master activity for a period of ten weeks which is articulated as follows:
Briefing Meeting
The Manager introduces the Company and assigns the design theme to the Students of the Master course.
Development of the first product ideas: (5 weeks)
Students, directed and coordinated by the Teacher, develop at the Institute the first ideas of project (concept design) by using the creative method
Review of the project’s first ideas
Every Student presents the project’s first ideas to the Manager of the Company (hand sketches with comments) who chooses the ideas that will be further developed.
Phase of project’s development
The Teacher, creating if necessary new workgroups, assigns the selected themes to Students who develop at the Institute the project (product design) until the final draft (3D renderings and rough technical drawings), that will be presented on paper and digital files.
Final presentation
Final projects are presented and delivered to the Manager of the Company
