When logos tell the truth. Nothing but the truth.

Viktor Hertz introduces us his ironic graphic project

22/2/2012 | Uppsala, Sweden.  Viktor Hertz, a young Sweden graphic designer, developed an interesting project. Its name is Honest Logo. The ingredients? Take a company, its logo and the message it “real” conveys through products and services. The idea is obviously ironic, a bit satirical. We asked a few questions to Viktor to make him tell us how this graphic idea was born.

Viktor, how did you get the idea for this project?
Adbusting logos was actually the very first thing I started to do in graphic design, so this is like going back to my original ideas and style. It started with even more silly ideas and under the belt-humor, so this time I tried to be a bit more consistent and sharp. I’ve always been a fan of satire and adbusting, and I always look at things and try to figure out a way to remix them and give them a new meaning. I guess it’s easy to amuse people, when the image is built on something you recognize.

Are you glad of Honest Logo success?
It’s just meant to be a silly little project, I didn’t think they would get this much attention. I wish I had worked harder on some of them.. : )

How many logos have you “re-designed”?
There are 30 of them, at the moment. I might do more later, but nothing is quite decided yet. If I get ideas for more logos, I will make them. It’s not that serious, though, so they might not be perfect..

Which one is your favorite and why?
Hmm, good question. “Cat Videos” (photo 1) was the very first one I made in this series, and I still like that one. I love cat videos, as well, so it’s close to my heart. : ) I’m also quite happy with the more recent “Trailer preview” logo (photo 2). I hate trailers, they really spoil the whole movie, including key moments and crucial scenes. I try to avoid them as much as I can, although it’s sometimes hard, since I work part-time extra at a cinema!
