PADOVA.  Riciclarti is back to Padua (our graduates Drop Soup participated in 2010 edition). It’s the series of events dedicated to art and design applied to environment.

Riciclarti is the International Biennal of Art and Design on environmental sustainability. The exhibit is open from May 26 to June 23, 2013 at Ex Macello, via A. Cornaro 1 in Padua. Opening hours: Monday-Friday 16.00-20.00; Saturday-Sunday: 10.00-13.00 e 16.00-20.00.

In Venice human bodies to be distilled from May 27

Human Distiller, a personal exhibit with Syd Minus' research

LagoStudio, open selections for the workshop

10 young designer will be hosted by the company Lago

PADOVA.  Lagostudio is Lago’s creative soul. It is a workshop open to young talented people for developing new forms of expression and innovative projects in communication, products, furnishings and interior design. The first LAGOSTUDIO workshop will take place from the 24th of June to the 5th of July, the second workshop will take place from the 15th of July to the 26th of July at the Lago SpA company in Villa del Conte (PD).

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

The object of this call is to select 10 young talented people that are invited to have a unique formative experience: a 10 day workshop at the Lago company where the designers will work closely with the Company’s Creative Director and Technical Office and will be briefed at the opening session.

After a specific briefing the workshop participants will develop design proposals for new products in compliance with Lago’s mood and philosophy.

Participation is open to students and young professionals. Applying for the LagoStudio 2013 is completely free.
Following the results of the workshop the company reserves the right to develop projects that are considered particularly interesting and should the projects eventually be produced the company will give a financial award to the project’s designer.

DEADLINES

• Still open until May 19, 2013: Application receipt deadline (24.00 Italian time) for the 2nd workshop
• May 24, 2013: Jury will meet at the Appartamento Lago Milano Brera
• July 15 to 26: Second workshop at Lago in Villa del Conte (PD)

Contests |  Design an artwork, fly to New York

Visual design competition promoted by Samsonite Europe

VARESE.  “Design My Samsonite” is an international design Contest arranged by Samsonite Europe NV. The Contest objective is to design an artwork which can be printed on a Curv suitcase: Cosmolite or Firelite.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Participation is open to applicants from every European country, as well as Russia, South Africa and Turkey, who are registered undergraduate and graduate art and/or design students or have completed their education during academic year 2012-2013.

DEADLINES

The registration is free and it opens on March 18th, 2013 while the deadline is May 31st, 2013.

PRIZES

The winning designs may be produced and sold in a limited edition. The Organizer reserves the right to decide on the produced quantities.

• Cosmolite design: trip to New York City, including flight and lodging (travel voucher worth € 3.000) + set of limited edition Cosmolite suitcases (3 suitcases).
• Firelite design: trip to Cape Town, including flight and lodging (travel voucher worth € 3.000) + set of limited edition Firelite suitcases (3 suitcases).

There will also be a People’s Choice Award.

Contests |  Iron coating, Arteteco launches challenge

The competition is open to designers up to June 29, 2013

BENEVENTO.  After the success of last editions, Arteteco and Costruzioni Tecniche Meccaniche launch the 4th edition of the contest “Si accende il design... Dai fuoco alle tue idee”, whose goal is the design of coatings made of ferrous material for thermo-stoves.
The contest wants to stimulate the rise of ideas which are innovative, creative, original, technically feasible and that can be produced in series.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

The competition is open to Italian and foreign architects, designers and students specialized in industrial design.
The contest is an opportunity for designers to collaborate with a leading company in the field of production of polyfuel generators: Costruzioni Tecniche Meccaniche.
The rating will take into account originality, innovation and technique.

DEADLINES

The materials must be sent at Arteteco up to June 29, 2013 at 12.30 pm. During the month of September an exhibition of the most interesting works will be organized in Benevento, and the most valuable projects will enter the 2014 products catalogue.

PRIZES

The company will recognize a royalty on the sales of the selected works. Also, the first place will receive a 1,000.00 euro price.

A day open to everyone dedicated to Design for All

The meeting of April 9 between the appointments of Libero Accesso 2013

VICENZA.  The 2013 edition of the competition “Libero Accesso”, promoted by Confartigianato Vicenza, gets under way. The preparatory phase will take place on Tuesday, April 9th with a meeting focused on the Design for All.

The meeting will last from 10.00 to 17.30. Speakers: the architect Luigi Bandini Buti and the designer Avril Accolla, experts in Design for All.

The participation is free and open to everybody, in particular to those young designers who want to take part in the 2013 contest. You just need to confirm your presence with an e-mail to info@liberoaccesso.com.

Contests |  Your seat can win 3,500 euro

Originality, ergonomics and materials among the requirements of your product

UDINE.  The Udine Chamber of Commerce announces a competition of creative and innovative ideas for the design of chairs and objects for interiors. The aim of the competition is to stimulate the production of projects that are feasible technically and can be mass-produced, and which stand out for their originality, quality, functionality, ergonomic aspect, choice of materials (and with a significant albeit not exclusive use of wood) and requirements of mass production.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

It is possible to design and propose a single object chosen from one of two categories:

1. chairs (with or without armrest),
2. seats (among which stools, armchairs or small armchairs, small sofas, chaise longues, poufs, etc.).

The competition is reserved exclusively for designers who have not yet reached their 35th birthday upon the closing date of the competition.

All the documents must arrive by and no later than 15th June, 2013 at the Secretariat:

The main theme of the fair in Rho is “In Milan, interiors of tomorrow”, as the president of Cosmit Claudio Luti explains:

The two main areas of this year fair will be:

• Euroluce: The usual range of decorative products will be offset by industrial, theatre, hospital and street lighting solutions, as it has been for many years. There is a strong bias towards energy saving, environmental sustainability and combating light pollution.

Salone Satellite

At Pavilions 22-24, the 16th edition of SaloneSatellite theme is “Craftsmanship & Design: Together for Industry”. The concept is to integrate the tradition of craftsmanship with the technological possibilities offered by contemporary industrial planning and production.
The mission remains to be a talent scout for under 35 designers, and help them in creating new contact with the exhibitors.

There will also be 17 international design school, including a welcome contact of Scuola Italiana Design: Universidade de Caxias do Sul (Brazil), of which two students took part at SID ModuloMaster last autumn and so we’re meeting them again next April.

As usual, the students of the first two years of the Study Plan in Creative Design will be accompanied to Milan to visit the most important Italian design event. Together with them, SID Pills is posting a series of insights and photos that tell the SID experience at Salone 2013 and “our” selection of the best proposals.

A SID graduate at 2013 Padova Fotografia

Luca Bortolato and his exhibit Identità Altre until April 6th

PADOVA.  Padova Fotografia is the festival of photography taking place in Padua from March 9th to April 6th, 2013. The theme of its first edition is “Alone Inside . Through the Society”.

The relationship between men’s life, places identity and their contradictions will be represented by using the features of the photographic medium. 46 exhibits, 8 workshops, 9 meetings and 5 presentations will be held in Padua.

Among the 46 exhibits there is also “Identità Altre” by Luca Bortolato, SID graduate. What is it?

It’s a path into identity.
It’s an accumulation of personalities, eyes, hair, water and meat.
A serial analysis of the ego through the other, investiganting the loss of boundaries identity.
Multiplicity of representative consciousnesses and forced, and often deformed, projections of yourself.

More than recognize: recognize yourself.

Feeling the ONE in the apparently homogeneous group,
in a sequence and catalog of required images.
Belong and belong yourself.
A study on inclusion/exclusion in a recognizable but unstable shape,
declared but at the same time hidden from the eyes of the beholder.

A path, finally, on diversity: the not-ego.
The other.
